I’m in Wales this week on holiday with Louise, staying in the Studio flat at Shona and Mike’s lovely home in North Pembrokeshire. It is very wonderful here. So quiet, no traffic noise, no aircraft, only the sheep and the birds and babbling stream. The verges of the lanes are packed with wild flowers and nearby are hills to climb and coastal paths to explore.
I’ve left my plants at home, with a friend watering the ones in pots and chance watering the ones in the ground. Down here I have bought some chives and a mint plant to add to my collection. And we have been eating salad from the garden – rocket flowers and chives; lettuce, crinkly kale; hot peppery leaves I can’t remember the name of- all delicious. And drinking fresh vervain tea – such a delicate flavour. I will take home some cuttings.
And I’ve helped to create another cardboard no-dig bed with Mike and planted some leeks. The story is told below in pictures:
Home tomorrow, and I’ll see if the slugs and snails and pigeons have run riot while I’ve been away. I trust they have not. We can all live together.
